Mike's Hard Lemonade

 Type: Beer
Price: About $9 for 6 11.2 oz. Bottles
 Alcohol: 5%
Flavor: 4.5 out of 5 Stars

I look for two things in an alcoholic beverage; great taste and a mellow buzz. I'm not interested in the "privilege" of paying for an over-priced beverage or something that requires that I develop a taste for it.  The drinks that get high-marks with me simply taste good and are enjoyable.

Mike's Hard Lemonade is great! It has a real sweet lemonade flavor, no after taste, and despite only 5% alcohol you will feel the effects.  The only complaint I have about Mike's is the size of the bottle.  In a world where all its competitors come in at 12 oz, Mike's is going to come up short at 11.2?

Henry's hard Orange Soda

 Type: Soda
Price: About $10 for 6 12 oz. Bottles
 Alcohol: 4.2%
Flavor: 2.5 out of 5 Stars

I look for two things in an alcoholic beverage; great taste and a mellow buzz. I'm not interested in the "privilege" of paying for an over-priced beverage or something that requires that I develop a taste for it.  The drinks that get high-marks with me simply taste good and are enjoyable.

So, seeing this in the store, I imagined it was going to be amazing, like Sunkist soda with alcohol.  For all it's bright orange glory, the flavor is not nearly as orange as you might think.  It is not terrible, far from it, but also not great.  Kind of a "meh" flavor.  The drink is a little tart, akin to the flavor of vitamin C pills my dad used to make me eat when I was a kid.  At only 4.2% alcohol, it also doesn't have much in the 'buzz' department.

Best Damn Root Beer

 Type: Beer
Price: About $10 for 6 12 oz. Bottles
 Alcohol: 5.5%
Flavor: 1 out of 5 Stars

If you have to get used to the taste, then it doesn't taste good.  This is the case with Best Damn Root Beer.  The flavor is almost bitter.  I understand that this is perhaps what an actual root beer is supposed to taste like, and that the soda root beers are not at all a root beer.  Still, as a fan of A&W and Barq's, this root beer is a real let-down.

Bella Bolle Prosecco

 Type: Sparkling Wine
Price: About $15 for a 25 oz. bottle
 Alcohol: 11%
Flavor: 2 out of 5 Stars

I look for two things in an alcoholic beverage; great taste and a mellow buzz. I'm not interested in the "privilege" of paying for an over-priced beverage or something that requires that I develop a taste for it.  The drinks that get high-marks with me simply taste good and are enjoyable.

Bella Bolle Prosecco has a nice bouquet, but is more tart than sweet.  It would be good with a cheese or fish, but on its own I was not impressed.

Not Your Father's Root Beer

 Type: Beer
Price: About $10 for 6 12 oz. Bottles
 Alcohol: 5.9%
Flavor: 2.5 out of 5 Stars

I look for two things in an alcoholic beverage; great taste and a mellow buzz. I'm not interested in the "privilege" of paying for an over-priced beverage or something that requires that I develop a taste for it.  The drinks that get high-marks with me simply taste good and are enjoyable.

I like root beer.  If you don't like root beer, this is not the drink for you.  As much as I like root beer, I really don't think this is the drink for me, either.  There are things I like about the look of the bottle immediately.  I enjoy the antique illustration and formatting of the label.  The bottle requires a bottle opener, lending to the drink a sense of legitimacy in my mind.  The drink itself leaves a few things to be desired.  The initial taste is alright, though falling short of a root beer soda flavor.  The heavy vanilla, however, has a bitter after-taste that does not improve as you drink it.  It is not a purchase I will make again.

Redd's Wicked Black Cherry

 Type: Hard Ale
Price: About $14 for 12 10 oz. Cans
 Alcohol: 8%
Flavor: 4 out of 5 Stars

I look for two things in an alcoholic beverage; great taste and a mellow buzz. I'm not interested in the "privilege" of paying for an over-priced beverage or something that requires that I develop a taste for it.  The drinks that get high-marks with me simply taste good and are enjoyable.

Redd's Wicked Black Cherry Hard Ale is a tasty and refreshing drink that has enough kick to start to have an effect after about a can-and-a-half.  The price is comparable to similar drinks, more expensive than beer but less expensive than a bottle of chap wine.  Initially, the taste was reminiscent of cough syrup (though having the consistency of a soda).  The cherry flavor and alcohol content are the culprits behind this initial impression, which quickly passes.  All-in-all an enjoyable beverage.
